Sydney, Australia –September 2025- Layercake had a number of people representing us at IBC 2025. After landing on Thursday morning, we made our way to the booths to get everything ready for the show on Friday. We then attended Devoncroft, which was an interesting session with key takeaways around FinOps particularly how traditional CapEx organisations are moving to OpEx and usage-type models, giving finance and the CFO a greater role in business decisions. Other highlights included discussions on cloud and how hybrid and on-premise are not going away but instead complement each other, the growing role of AI in media, changes in revenue opportunities, and MXL why it’s being developed and how it can help improve interoperability across the industry.
We found the content and panel talks to be a great validation for Layercake, aligning closely with how we’ve projected industry trends and forecasted the direction media and broadcast are heading. We’ve built Streamcake to help businesses address these market changes and successfully integrate their operations. Streamcake captures workflow usage metrics, tagging them so businesses can report on events and other dimensions addressing FinOps. It’s also well placed, through its agnostic interoperability capability and dynamic architecture, to help companies leverage the benefits of technologies like MXL for future opportunities.
Later in the afternoon, we attended sessions and met with different groups across the event, including the Grass Valley Forum, where there was a lot of interest and discussion about Streamcake and the innovation work we’re doing with GVAMPP across various infrastructure options such as AWS, SharonAI, Oracle, Linode Akamai, and on-premise setups.
Once the exhibition started on Friday, we shared the load exhibiting Streamcake and Layercake’s capabilities at the conference showcasing live how our platform solves real challenges. Over the four days, we had many interesting conversations with potential and existing customers who were looking for solutions and technology that add value to their operations without significant overhead or the need for multiple subject matter experts. Together, we talked through and demonstrated use cases in schedule management, cost management (FinOps), switching technology, easier interoperability, on-demand (stand up and destroy) workflows, monitoring and alerting, cost awareness, and support for different production models and tiers whether on-premise, remote, hybrid, or cloud.
By Monday afternoon, the halls started to quiet down as attendees thinned out and exhibitors began packing up after a busy four days. We spent this time connecting with different technology providers we’re interested in and have existing relationships with, such as Ceeblue, Norsk, Visionular, SimplyLive, EVS, Imagine, Viz, Unified Streaming, Fastly, Bunny, Singular Live, Enveu, Mobiotics, AWS, and Telstra.
Some general takeaways from IBC 2025 included the reality of cost constraints in media and broadcast, the growing focus on doing more with less through FinOps, and the recognition that new technology doesn’t necessarily mean new resources it needs to fit seamlessly with existing or future systems. There was also strong emphasis on streamlining media workflows and supporting interoperability across different technologies. While AI continues to be part of every business conversation, the main areas of maturity remain in captioning and speech-to-text, with growing interest in agentic AI capabilities emerging within the broadcast and media space.
IBC 2025 reinforced that businesses need and will benefit from a platform like Streamcake. We came back with new technology integrations to add to our roadmap, new workflows and profiles to test, and plenty of fresh opportunities to explore. It was our most engaging and successful IBC to date, and Layercake through Streamcake now has new customers, exciting opportunities, and real-world use cases we’ll be bringing to market in the coming weeks and months. We truly appreciated Alpher and the Ant Media team for hosting Layercake on their stand, and Grass Valley for their support, as well as the chance to connect with so many people and see firsthand how the industry continues to evolve.
