The Design Conference (TDC) is a globally respected creative symposium held annually in Australia. Known for its world-class speakers and meaningful cultural conversations, The Design Conference attracts designers, leaders, and story-tellers from across the globe both in-person and online. In 2025, the team behind the event wanted to deliver an even more seamless hybrid experience.

To meet the demands of a high-profile, hybrid event, The Design Conference 2025 partnered with Layercake to leverage Streamcake an all-in-one live and on-demand media platform.

From powering a stable live stream to enabling real-time content clipping and complete stream monitoring, Streamcake helped The Design Conference deliver a world-class viewing experience to a global audience with reliability, visibility, and speed.

BUSINESS CHALLENGE

As The Design Conference continued to grow its global presence, the event team faced three core challenges:

Delivering a smooth and professional live stream that could be managed from both on-site and remote locations.

Creating replay and on-demand content in real time — not hours or days after the event.

Monitoring the live feed transparently to quickly catch and resolve any technical issues before they reached the audience.

Traditional broadcast tools offered parts of this workflow, but not a unified solution. The opportunity was to simplify operations while elevating the digital experience.

Streamcake was deployed to support the full lifecycle of the live event from ingest to output with three standout features:

SRT inputs were connected to the studio’s vision switcher, allowing Streamcake to process the live feed instantly. Whether streaming on-site or managing remotely, the team could rely on stable, low-latency delivery.

2. Real-Time Clipping

While the event was still ongoing, operators created clips from the live stream. These were automatically pushed by Streamcake as replay clips available for instant on-demand access and post-event promotion.
