 A live production chain across Norsk, Grass Valley AMPP, Oracle Cloud and Cloudflare MoQ  built by automation, and torn down the same way 

Live production chains are usually assembled by hand and then left standing, because rebuilding them is too much work to risk. 

We wanted to see what happens when that isn’t true. 

At IBC2026 we’re running a broadcast-grade live chain that spans three vendors and two clouds, and that builds itself from nothing and destroys itself afterwards. Contribution comes from AWS Elemental MediaConnect over SRT. Production runs on Oracle Cloud, where Norsk and a Grass Valley AMPP node sit on the same GPU instance. Delivery goes out over Media over QUIC through Cloudflare’s public relay  and comes back to a player to prove itself. 

How the signal moves 

Norsk pulls the SRT feed and publishes the essence into a shared-memory MXL domain on the host. The Grass Valley node discovers it, brings it into Cleancut a production vision mixer  and tallies it on air. Cleancut’s program output goes back onto the same domain, Norsk picks it up, encodes it, and publishes to Cloudflare. The stream is then subscribed back from Cloudflare and rendered. 

Contribution to glass, with the round trip closing the loop. 

Three things worth a closer look 

The vendor-to-vendor handoff never touches a network. Norsk and AMPP are co-resident on one instance, exchanging video and audio through a RAM-backed shared-memory MXL domain. What crosses between them is 10-bit uncompressed 4:2:2 essence. No encode, no decode, no packetisation, no network stack, no generation loss. 

The setup is deliberately dull: it’s a filesystem bind mount at a shared path, so Grass Valley needs no special container privileges to join in. Flows carry AMWA NMOS tags, and discovery happens on the group hint rather than a flow ID. The entire agreement needed between two competing vendors is one path and one naming convention  a contract you could write on a business card. 

There’s a real vision mixer in the middle. Not a passthrough. Cleancut takes the Norsk feed as a tallied on-air source, mixes it, and returns its program output. The chain crosses fully into a live production environment and comes back out. 

MoQ, working, against a public relay. The leg negotiates moq-transport-16 against Cloudflare’s draft-16 relay and publishes H.264 and AAC-LC CMAF tracks in an MSF catalog. Most MoQ demos today are single-vendor and single-site; this is a three-party path encoder, public relay, player. 

Orchestrated, not assembled 

Fourteen Streamcake workflows cover the whole lifecycle: create the instance, prepare the OS, license and install Norsk, onboard the Grass Valley node, launch Norsk Studio with the shared-memory domain attached, create the Cloudflare relay, push the media workflow  then destroy compute, node registration and relay alike. 

The hardest part was the least glamorous. Norsk’s installer and Grass Valley’s node agent depend on conflicting Docker packages, and installing either second evicts the first, silently. The fix is to satisfy the dependency first and pin it, so a future eviction fails loudly instead of quietly. 

Which changes the cost model. Nothing here is a standing deployment. The instance, the node registration and the relay exist for the event and are gone afterwards. No idle infrastructure between shows, and no orphaned node left in the AMPP tenancy. 

What’s next 

The Grass Valley integration continues into its next phase. Two steps sit in AMPP’s own interface today  selecting the discovered MXL flow, and assigning it on the mixer  and bringing those under the same orchestration is the work we’re taking forward with GV after the show. 

Alongside that, we’re building out a measured glass-to-glass latency profile for the chain, which we’ll publish with the methodology behind it.
